Social Service Advisory Board Roles
Each county as well as the City of Baltimore has the ability to establish and maintain a local board.
Boards may have up to 13 members, and are appointed by the local DSS and/or county executives and commissioners. Board members serve in two capacities: 1) as an advisory group in support of the local DSS organization and its Director; and 2) as a member of MASSB and the MASSB Foundation. In this capacity, the board performs outreach functions within their community to determine whether there are gaps between the community's needs and the government funded operations of DSS. Under the 501(c)(3) authority of the Foundation, each board may generate revenue through fundraisers, grants and donations.
