Foundation Chair
Tony Wohlers
Tony Wohlers served as the Chair for the Harford County Department of Social Services Advisory Board for many years. He currently serves as the Foundation Chair for the MASSB Foundation. Within the context of his extensive civic engagement activities throughout his career in higher education, he has played pivotal roles in community support, guiding both strategy and activities of various not-for-profit organization boards. With a history of active participation and leadership in various civic organizations for more than 20 years, Tony Wohlers brings extensive experience to his role as Foundation Chair. Presently, he serves as the Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs at SUNY Corning Community College in New York and is a Ph.D. graduate in Political Science from Northern Illinois University.

Ed Hinde
Ed’s professional career has spanned a spectrum of roles for start-up and early-stage development organizations including strategy and product development for a leading international food & beverage company, special projects for PepsiCo, market research for Abbott Labs, and the creation and executive management of a leading homeless youth services nonprofit, SHIP of Frederick County. Ed is also the Founder of Good Works Frederick, a local community development corporation that works to fulfill unmet human service needs in Frederick County. A ’84 and ’88 Olympic Trials finalist in track & field, Ed credits his business success to the discipline required to become a national-class athlete. Energized and impassioned by his commitment to social justice and service, Ed now utilizes his business skills and experience to help build a better world for those impacted by inequities and poverty. Ed currently serves as the Chair for the Frederick County DSS Advisory Board.

Chris Cummings
Chris Cummings concluded a commendable nearly four-decade tenure with the Department of the Navy, where she held prominent roles as a senior financial manager at both the Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division in Indian Head, MD, and the Naval Air Systems Command in Lexington Park, MD. Following her federal service, she embraced her dedication to community impact by joining the Calvert Family Advocates in 2012. In her time there, she made significant contributions as Treasurer and was honored as MASSB's Board Member of the Year in 2014. Cummings ascended to the role of Trustee with the MASSB Foundation in January 2019, offering her leadership as Chair until 2022. She enjoys life in Solomons, MD, with her husband, Andy, and delights in the company of their three adult sons and four grandsons.

Karen Lane
Upon retiring, Karen Lane took her passion for community service to the Calvert County Social Services Advisory Board in 2014, motivated by a commitment to contribute to her community. She was at the helm of the board as Chair from 2015 to 2021, where she spearheaded the expansion of its non-profit sector, Calvert Family Advocates. Currently, Lane brings her expertise to the MASSB Foundation as a Trustee, where she is instrumental in the strategic and operational guidance of the Executive Team. Her background includes a notable tenure with the U.S. Navy, where she worked as a civilian engineer and program manager before being elevated to the Senior Executive Service in 1998. Post her Navy service, Lane contributed her skills to SAIC as a Senior Business Process Consultant. Formally of Dunkirk, Maryland, Lane resides in Selbyville, Delaware with her husband, son, and Labrador Retriever, Lina. Lane and Lina were recently certified as a PAWS for People Therapy Team, bringing the healing power of pet therapy to children and adults in their community.

Ken White
Kenneth White is the President and CEO of the Maryland Black Chamber of Commerce. Prior to taking on this role, he held the position of Senior Vice President and Relationship Manager for Sandy Spring Bank. Mr. White’s career in banking and economic development spans over 40 years. He has held positions at Signal Financial Federal Credit Union, M&T Bank, Bank of America, Working for Success Economic Development Corp; The Washington Project; New Day Consulting; and Southeastern University’s Center for Entrepreneurship. Mr. White serves on the Board of Directors of the following organizations: Prince George’s County Board of Social Services, Montgomery County Black Collective and the Maryland Association of Social Services Board Foundation. He is a former Board Member of the Maryland Black Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Prince George’s, Maryland Commercial Lenders Association and FSC First. He also serves on the Maryland State Comptroller’s Business Advisory Council. Mr. White is a graduate of Potomac College with a BS in Management. He is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University, Carey School of Business, Minority Leadership Development Graduate Program as well as Leadership Prince George’s. Mr. White was recognized in 2022 by The Daily Record with the Power 30 Business Leaders Award. He has also been recognized for his community involvement with awards from Leadership Prince George’s, Prince George’s FSC First, Prince George’s Small Business Initiative Alliance and the US Small Business Administration.

Nate Poerio
Originally from Arnold, Maryland, Nate co-founded The English Camp Company in Italy in 2008 and later in Austria. The ECC organizes a cultural exchange between English speakers and Italian or Austrian families at English language summer camps. Over the years he’s enjoyed hosting loads of students and teachers from Maryland and he hopes the tradition continues. He tries to get back to MD as often as possible to visit his parents, 3 sisters and their families. Nate lives in a small town in Umbria in central Italy called Bevagna where he owns and operates Lunabell B&B. He is married and has two kids and a golden retriever.
